The Sustainable Building Advisor Certification The Sustainable Building Advisor (SBA) Certification is a 9-month program that provides working professionals in the building industry with practical skills and a strong understanding of green and sustainable building practices. The SBA Certification is designed for practicing professionals (builders, designers, building operators, planners, architects, engineers, etc.) wishing to apply sustainable concepts to the buildings they design, develop, and construct - buildings that are energy and resource efficient, provide healthy working and living environments, and are environmentally responsible and cost-effective. The course covers 8 units (Energy Efficient Design, Indoor Environmental Quality, Water & Site Design, etc) and is taught by many local expert instructors. The course format consists of interactive classroom seminars, guest presenters, hands-on activities and field trips. The advantage of this course is that it creates the opportunity for face-to-face learning from experienced professionals over a period of many months. It also provides the opportunity to gain experience advising on an existing local sustainable building project. Individuals successfully completing the SBA certification become eligible to take the Certified Sustainable Building Advisor (CSBA) Exam. Successful passage of the exam entitles the individual to use the designation of CSBA. The certifying body for the certification is the SBA Institute. Over 1250 students have graduated from the program and since 2005, over 850 have passed the professional exam to become Certified Sustainable Building Advisors. The SBA course is recognized by many other organizations: Beetle Green is currently enrolling for 2014 in both Regina and Saskatoon.
